Great-West Life is the TTC's plan administrator for health and dental benefits for all employees and retirees.

Now you can get instant information through the online services sign-in for Group Plan Members at www.gwl.ca . Once you register, you'll be able to view your benefit details, claims history and more online - anytime. You will need your plan and identification numbers, which are on your Great-West Life/Assure Benefit ID Card to register properly.

  • View the status of your latest claims and up to 24 months of claims history.
  • Confirm when you're covered for new prescription glasses.
  • Print claim forms with your plan information already filled in.

Important Timing Requirements:

  • NEW EMPLOYEE - "Regular" status employees have coverage effective the 1st of the month following completion of 6 months of continuous service.

Adding an Eligible Dependent:

Must complete the Healthcare and Dental Coverage/Dependent Change of Information Form.

  • SPOUSE - If legally married, coverage effective on date of marriage and must be reported within 30 days, otherwise coverage effective the first of the following month.

  • COMMON-LAW SPOUSE - One year living together in a conjugal relationship, effective the 1st of the month following. If former spouse covered, a one-year waiting period applies from date former spouse removed from coverage.

  • NEW BORN CHILD- Must be reported within 60 days.

  • STUDENTS- At age 21, i.e. the month prior to attainment of age 21, if a full time student attending a recognized educational institution, in order for coverage to be continuous a "Healthcare and Dental Coverage/Dependent Change of Information" form must be completed.

Healthcare and Dental Claims:

  • Previous Calendar Year's Claims - Must submit to Great-West Life prior to March 31st of the current year. Claims submitted and received after this date are not eligible for reimbusement.
  • Calendar Year - Means January 1st to December 31.
    • E.g.
    • Physiotherapy/Chiropractic Treatment ($700.00 per person per calendar year)
    • Speech Therapist
    • Registered Clinical Psychologist
    • Hearing Aids
  • Every Twelve or Twenty-four Month Coverage - Means twelve moving months from the last date of purchase, i.e. date on receipt.
    • E.g.
    • Orthotics
    • Visioncare (eligible on a full twenty-four month basis from last date of purchase)
  • Other Healthcare Supplies
    • E.g.
    • Mobility Aids/Prosthetic Equipment (in accordance with the reasonable and customary timing cycles depending on the health item)
    • Back support (every 3 calendar years)
    • Wheel Chairs (every 2 years for child, every 3 years for adults)
  • Pre-determination or Estimate
    • Before incurring any large expense for Healthcare supplies or for dental ($400.00 or more), ask the provider or dentist to provide the estimate or the treatment plan and submit to Great-West Life. Employees will be informed in writing by GWL of the eligible amount payable.
  • Co-ordination of Benefits
    • If spouse is provided with healthcare and dental benefits or if his/her employer terminates benefits, the Healthcare and Dental Coverage/Dependent Change of Information Form must be completed and submitted accordingly.
